Most accounting roles hand you a pile of work and leave you to guess what good looks like. This one does the opposite. You get a clear scope, a system behind every task, and a defined line for when to act and when to escalate. Do the work well and you will not stay in the same seat. This is the entry point to a career that grows into client advisory and, for the right person, ownership.
The Role in Three Sentences
You are the execution backbone of the Aureus Accounting team. You own the preparation, compliance and administration layer that keeps our work running on time, our clients informed, and our senior Accountants free to focus on high-value advice. As you prove your accuracy and reliability, you take on more client contact and advisory exposure.
Why This Matters
Our clients are business owners who do not just need returns lodged. They need clarity, confidence, and a team that treats their numbers as if they were our own. Every workpaper you set up cleanly and every deadline you hit on time is what lets an Accountant walk into a client meeting and change a business decision. You are not behind the scenes. You are the reason the advice lands.
What You Will Own
Three core pillars. Each has a clear boundary, a system, and a defined escalation path.
Pillar 1: Compliance and Administration
Keep our compliance obligations accurate and on time.
- Prepare ASIC annual reviews and manage all follow-up actions through to completion
- Process SGC statements, STP transactions, and TPAR filings
- Download, organise, and file ATO reports accurately and on time
Pillar 2: Bookkeeping and Finance
Produce clean, reliable numbers the team can build advice on.
- Provide bookkeeping support as directed by the supervising Accountant
- Conduct General Ledger reviews and flag discrepancies before they become problems
- Assist with BAS drafting and follow-up activities
Pillar 3: Billing and Client Operations
Protect cash flow and give clients a smooth, professional experience.
- Raise invoices accurately within approved budgets
- Chase accounts receivable and manage overdue follow-up with professionalism
- Set up workpapers and collect outstanding client documents
Advisory and client support upside: as you build trust and track record, you will step into more direct client contact, sit in on advisory work, and take ownership of a growing slice of the relationship. The compliance seat is where you start, not where you stay.
What Success Looks Like in Your First 90 Days
- You are running ASIC, STP, SGC and TPAR obligations independently, on time, with no chasing required.
- Your workpapers and GL reviews are clean enough that the supervising Accountant trusts them without re-checking.
- Invoices are raised on time and overdue accounts are actively followed up, with debtor days trending down.
Who You Are
- You take genuine pride in accurate, error-free work. Details matter to you.
- You have the discipline to follow a system consistently, and the judgement to escalate when something falls outside the lines.
- You communicate clearly and professionally, with clients and with the internal team.
- You want to grow. You see the compliance seat as the first rung, not the whole ladder.
- You are not here to coast. You want to move fast, take on more, and build something and you know the best way to do that is to master the fundamentals first.
What You Need to Bring
- Experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, or professional services support role (5 years preferred).
- Exposure to Australian compliance obligations: ASIC, STP, SGC, TPAR, and BAS.
- Working knowledge of Xero, Karbon, and XPM, or the demonstrated ability to learn practice management software quickly.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- A track record of managing client follow-up and admin tasks accurately within checklist-driven workflows.
What We Offer
- Salary package up to $90,000 plus superannuation, based on experience.
- Performance-based profit share once you are established in the role.
- A structured pathway from compliance into client advisory, with support for further certifications.
- Fully remote work with genuine respect for work-life balance.
- A collaborative team that shares knowledge and celebrates wins together.
