The Clinical Genetics Department, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead has the following two part-time temporary Staff Specialist positions available:
Outreach Genetics - Temp 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week) up to 28 February 2029 (preferably the full 0.6FTE, however fractional FTE may be considered)
The focus of this position is to support the CHW Outreach Genetics service to Western NSW LHD, working closely with WNSWLHD genetic counsellors. The position includes being the primary clinical geneticist for WNSWLHD prenatal referrals, together with contribution to the existing outreach service (encompassing paediatric and adult referrals). This will involve regular travel to Dubbo and Orange. The position includes pro-rata on call for the clinical genetic service at SCHN-CHW. All other contributions are as outlined in the PD, with a primary focus on outreach genetic services.
Cancer Genetics - Temp 0.2FTE (8 hours per week) up to 30 June 2028 (smaller fraction not available)
The CHW Paediatric Genetic Oncology Service is a multidisciplinary service caring for children with suspected or confirmed genetic cancer predisposition syndromes. The 0.2FTE is to complement the existing clinical geneticist working with the genetic counsellor/s and Oncology team to consult with children and their families in an outpatient or inpatient setting. The position includes pro-rata on call for the clinical genetic service at SCHN-CHW. All other contributions are as outlined in the PD, with a primary focus on paediatric cancer genetics.
The position of Clinical Geneticist CHW will ensure that:
- Clinical Services are focused on delivering excellent clinical care as part of a multi-disciplinary team to children and
adults and supporting their families.
- Research and teaching is undertaken and focused on the area of Genetic Medicine
The Department of Clinical Genetics is part of the Western Sydney Genetics Program (WSGP) which provides a
comprehensive medical genetics service, including the Genetic Metabolic Disease Service and the Departments of
Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics, Biochemical Genetics and Newborn Screening. This position includes provision of
inpatient and outpatient clinical genetics services at the Children's Hospital at Westmead, Westmead Hospital and
rural outreach genetics clinics, and contribution to graduate and post-graduate medical teaching.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.

Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist - Clinical Geneticist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.

Certification as a Clinical Geneticist (HGSA) (by the time of commencement)

Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team and excellent interpersonal and professional relationships.

Experience in the provision of a wide range of consultant clinical genetics services, including diagnosis and counselling for prenatal, paediatric and adult genetic disorders. Specify experience/interest relevant to cancer genetics or outreach.

Research experience and publication record in peer-reviewed journals in a genetics-related field.

Experience in the supervision and teaching of medical students, paediatrician trainees, trainee clinical geneticists and genetic counsellors.

Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.

Higher degree or working towards a higher degree desirable.
