Robert Townson High School (FOEI 12 services the communities of Raby, Bow Bowing, Varroville and St Andrews. Our school celebrates diversity, including approximately 45 students within Diverse Learning Unit as well as students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We have approximately 800 students with 42% of the school population from English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) backgrounds and 50 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
We have students represent Robert Townson High School across the local and regional areas as well as occasionally across the State in sporting, cultural and academic competitions. The school undertook external validation in 2023 and through collaboration and consultation, developed a new Strategic Improvement Plan which commenced in Term 2 2024. Our strategic directions are Student Growth and Attainment, A Culture of High Expectations and Aspiration and A Highly Effective Professional Learning Community.
The Teacher-Librarian position at Robert Townson High School will take on a new and innovative role, dedicated to providing not only an inviting and engaging space for students to engage with literature but will also play a pivotal role in the development of a school culture focused on developing collaboration, critical and creative thinking and digital literacy, enabling our students to engage with the world as informed and digitally savvy individuals. The successful candidate will manage the library space and work collaboratively across the school to embed effective research skills and future focused pedagogies into our teaching and learning.

Approval to teach English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D), or currently undertaking approved secondary EAL/D qualifications recognised by the NSW Department of Education.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a high school setting to support the literacy, academic language and English language development of EAL/D students, including newly arrived students, across a range of curriculum areas.

Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive, engaging and supportive learning environment that meets the diverse linguistic, cultural and educational needs of secondary EAL/D learners, while fostering a culture of high expectations and student achievement.

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to build positive and productive relationships with the learning support team, classroom teachers, Head Teachers, executive staff, families and the wider school community to enhance student learning outcomes.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
If applicable, engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Teacher English as an Additional Language / Dialect qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education which must be completed within 12 months.
