About Our Role
Our Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMOs) in Critical Care manage patients requiring critical care in Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care and/or Anaesthesia, those at risk of clinical deterioration requiring care, plus pre- and post-care evaluation, as directed and overseen by supervising consultants in those departments; while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment.
Critically ill patients include patients with life-threatening single and multiple organ system failure, those at risk of clinical deterioration as well as those requiring resuscitation and/or management in a critical care unit (Emergency / Intensive Care / Anaesthetics). The Critical Care SRMO works under supervision, assisting to manage, diagnose and treat the disturbances associated with severe medical and surgical illness and the conditions that cause them.
Our Critical Care SRMOs gain valuable experience, education and training in critical care, especially for those preparing for the primary exam of ANZCA, CICM or ACEM.
