Job Description
Shape, lead and deliver as Industry Director – System Planning & Grid Integration Lead, AECOM’s market, technical, delivery and people approach across this practice area. This role provides the opportunity to make a difference building the future energy systems across the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) markets by partnering with clients to understand long term needs, while aligning and leading AECOM’s capabilities to deliver on evolving industry priorities.
You will be building on AECOM’s long standing client relationships working across geographies, to understanding local market industry requirements to identify specific client needs, as well as common themes, and future energy sector market requirements as the pace of change continues across this sector with the Energy transition. Equally, collaborating, advocating and influencing internally with the AECOM senior Energy leadership team across ANZ will be important. You will be leading leaders to achieve outcomes, including technical engineering excellence, project delivery and people related considerations. Understanding current team capability will be important as will planning for future people requirements, ensuring the team culture enables the growth, retention, development and recruitment to build this future capability aligned to market needs.
You will be working with a current team of subject matter leaders across client, engineering, design and delivery, who together provide a broad range of services across the Systems Planning, Grid Integration and related practice area. You will also have scope to lead projects in a Project Manager, Design Manager or Project Director capacity.
Likely based in Melbourne, this role will have a broad geographic remit working with all markets in ANZ across our Energy business covering Transmission & Distribution, and Generation & Storage, working on large utility scale, complex energy infrastructure projects.
How you will make a difference

Lead the strategic growth of AECOM’s technical, practice, client, delivery, commercial and people related requirements, for the Systems Planning & Grid integration practice area.

Provide oversight for AECOM’s Energy business leaders, from a market and industry perspective considering the changing market requirements and regulations, technology and commercial considerations.

Lead the client management approach, with both current and new strategic clients, ensuring the building of client relationships with a long term and Trusted Advisor approach.

Elevate and enhance the specialist technical excellence and verification requirements across the Systems, Planning and Grid Integration practice discipline, for large and complex utility-scale projects.

Develop, mentor and lead leaders with a focus on continuing the development of a high performing team culture with succession pathway for future leaders.

Provide strategic technical leadership across renewable energy, battery energy storage and power generation projects, advocating for both current and future market requirements.
Qualifications
To be successful in this Industry Director role at AECOM, you will be a proven leader known in the industry for your leadership, technical and delivery experience, with the ability to build mutually beneficial relationships as a trusted advisor. You will be known for your collaboration abilities across stakeholders, including with regulated utility clients, government regulators, OEMs, contractors and other key industry organisations.
You will also have experience delivering nationally significant projects at scale, working across multiple technical disciplines within the power system, planning and grid integration areas. Being able to lead multidisciplinary teams to solve technical and engineering project requirements will be important – both for leading project delivery teams, and for part of the role where you will have scope to deliver projects. Your ability to work with ambiguity bringing together different stakeholder groups, disciplines and teams with different working styles will be important. You will also be motivated by the opportunity to develop others helping to shape the next generation of energy engineering leaders.
You will also be known for your commercial judgement and acumen, able to shape and lead approaches that enable long term, sustainable growth for AECOM and our clients.
