We are seeking an experienced Principal Ventilation Consultant to join our Perth-based consulting team.
This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished ventilation professional to step into a senior technical leadership role with influence across a diverse global portfolio of underground mining operations. You will provide strategic ventilation expertise, technical governance, operational support, and consulting services to clients while mentoring the next generation of ventilation engineers.
Based in our Perth CBD office on St Georges Terrace, this role combines technical leadership, consulting excellence, client engagement, and Australian and international site travel. Working closely with senior business leaders and operational teams, you will play a critical role in shaping ventilation strategies that enhance safety, compliance, operational performance, and business outcomes.
What Will Your Day-to-Day Look Like?
- Provide principal-level ventilation engineering support across a diverse portfolio of underground mining operations and projects.
- Lead ventilation design, governance, and technical assurance activities for clients and stakeholders.
- Conduct and oversee ventilation audits, model reviews, compliance assessments, and operational performance reviews.
- Review, develop, and maintain Ventilation Management Plans (VMPs).
- Provide technical leadership for ventilation system design, fan selection, airflow optimisation, and ventilation infrastructure planning.
- Support operational and study teams with ventilation requirements across development, production, and project activities.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and ventilation-related risk assessments.
- Review and validate ventilation models using Ventsim and other industry-standard software.
- Provide specialist input into escapeway design, emergency preparedness, and mine ventilation strategies.
- Support clients in identifying and implementing industry-leading ventilation practices and operational improvements.
- Mentor, coach, and develop ventilation engineers, consultants, and technical professionals across the business.
- Contribute to tender submissions, technical due diligence reviews, and risk assessments for new business opportunities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry stakeholders.
- Support growth initiatives and contribute to the continued expansion of Orelogy's ventilation consulting capability.
- Champion technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across the business.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years' underground ventilation engineering experience, including significant operational and technical leadership exposure.
- Demonstrated expertise in underground mine ventilation design, planning, governance, and risk management.
- Strong site-based experience supporting operational underground mining environments.
- First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (FCMM) highly regarded.
- Experience leading ventilation audits, investigations, compliance reviews, and technical assurance programs.
- Proven ability to influence and engage with senior operational, technical, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong commercial awareness and consulting experience with a focus on delivering practical and value-driven solutions.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and leading technical teams.
- High-level technical report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Advanced proficiency with ventilation software, including Ventsim, VUMA, and associated mining and planning platforms such as Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, Surpac, or similar.
- Flexibility and willingness to undertake Australian and international travel.
