The First Nations Cultural Advisor will bring essential cultural expertise and valuable industry experience, particularly across care, support, community services, education and related sectors, to advance Chisholm’s commitment to culturally safe, inclusive and high-quality education, embedding First Nations perspectives in curriculum design, delivery and assessment.
This role works across multiple teams including teaching areas and support teams, ensuring learning materials respectfully represent and incorporate First Nations knowledge systems, histories, and contemporary experiences.
The Advisor will draw on their own lived experience, cultural identity and personal knowledge, and is not expected to represent all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Instead, the role will support broader, appropriate consultation processes and values diverse First Nations voices, especially where industry specific perspectives enhance course content in priority sectors such as early childhood, community services, aged care, youth work, health, education, and other people centred professions.
The role may also deliver workshops and engagement programs that strengthen culturally informed practice across Chisholm and provide support to First Nation students. The role contributes directly to student learning through guest speaking, cultural immersion activities, and delivery of workshops and engagement pop-ups aligned with cultural themes and significant dates. The Advisor may also provide mentorship to First Nations students in relevant vocational areas, supporting their transition into the workforce.
ABOUT YOU
You will have a relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent professional experience
You must have:

Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.

Ability to communicate an understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
-
Excellent interpersonal, relationship management, and influencing skills, including the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Professional experience in areas such as community services, education, social sciences, Indigenous studies, or a related discipline.
