Systems Engineer – IoT & AI
Company: iottag
Level: Junior to Mid-Level
About the Role
iottag is looking for an exceptionally capable Systems Engineer to help design and deliver the next generation of our IoT, AI and intelligent technology systems.
This is not a traditional software development role. We already have a dedicated software development team.
Your role will sit between our clients, technology partners, system vision and software development team — helping understand complex problems, design solutions, define what needs to be built and drive projects through to delivery.
We are looking for someone with a strong engineering foundation, outstanding problem-solving ability and the creativity and technical capability to help turn ideas into real, working systems.
What You'll Do
- Work with clients and partners to understand their problems, systems and requirements.
- Help develop the overall vision and design for new technology solutions.
- Design and document systems, workflows, integrations and data flows.
- Analyse data to identify patterns, problems and opportunities.
- Research and apply IoT, AI, automation and emerging technologies.
- Explore new ideas and build or assist with prototypes and proof-of-concepts.
- Translate concepts and system designs into clear requirements for our software team.
- Work closely with our offshore software development team to drive projects forward.
- Coordinate technical projects and keep clients, partners and developers aligned.
- Test and validate solutions against requirements.
- Identify problems, challenge assumptions and develop better solutions.
- Help take projects from an initial idea through to a working, deployed system.
What We're Looking ForMinimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or higher.
- Strong academic record, ideally including Honours, top-of-class results, academic awards or equivalent achievement.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Strong technical and systems thinking.
- Strong data analysis and analytics capability.
- Good understanding of software engineering principles.
- Good understanding of AI and modern AI technologies.
- Ability to understand APIs, databases, integrations and connected systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to confidently work across clients, partners and software engineers.
Experience with IoT, Python, SQL, data analytics, AI/LLMs, APIs, cloud platforms, connected devices or software development will be highly regarded.
The Person We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is highly intelligent, curious, creative and driven.
You enjoy being given a difficult problem and figuring out how to solve it.
You can take something that isn't clearly defined, ask the right questions, analyse the available information, research what you don't know and develop a practical path forward.
You should be comfortable thinking at both the big-picture system level and the technical detail level.
Most importantly, we want someone who can combine:
Engineering + exceptional problem solving + systems thinking + IoT + data + AI + creative thinking + communication.
You don't need to know everything from day one. You do need a strong technical foundation, a demonstrated ability to learn quickly and the drive to work things out.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to work across IoT, AI, data, software and systems engineering rather than being restricted to one narrow area.
You will work directly with clients, technology partners and our software development team and have the opportunity to contribute to projects throughout their entire lifecycle:
Understand → Analyse → Design → Define → Build → Test → Improve
For the right person, there is significant opportunity to take increasing ownership of projects and become an important part of the future technology and systems we build at iottag.
How to Apply
We are looking for more than a strong CV and academic record. We want to understand why you would be suitable for the role, capabilities and experience.
Please submit your CV together with a short 2–3 minute video introducing yourself and explaining:
- Why you believe you are well suited to this role.
- Your main technical interests and what excites you about engineering, IoT, AI and technology.
- An example of a difficult problem, project or challenge you have worked on and how you approached it.
- The skills and capabilities you believe you could bring to iottag.
- What you are interested in learning, building or achieving next in your career.
The video does not need to be professionally produced. A simple recording is fine.
Send video to: [email protected]
We are interested in seeing how you think, how you communicate, what motivates you and your ability to bring ideas to life.
Applications without a video will not be considered.
