About the role
The Senior Officer - Recovery (Nationwide) is responsible for developing and delivering targeted support and guidance to states and territories to ensure they can effectively recover from disasters and other crises. This role involves working at a national level to increase knowledge and understanding of recovery processes, advocate for best practices, and address the psychosocial needs of disaster-affected people and communities.
Day to day, you will:
- Develop and refine national policies and practices for disaster recovery, ensuring alignment with evidence-based and best-practice approaches.
- Deliver high-quality resources, training, tools, and workshops to enhance disaster recovery efforts across all states and territories.
- Apply community development principles to build recovery capacity and capability within communities nationwide.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships across the emergency management and recovery sectors, promoting and enhancing national disaster recovery initiatives.
- Conduct regular monitoring, evaluation, and reporting to assess the effectiveness of national recovery policies and initiatives, using data to inform practice and improvements.
What you will bring
- Demonstrated sound technical knowledge, expertise and understanding of disaster recovery and community development principles.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver training, workshops, and resources.
- Excellent advocacy and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Sound analytical skills and demonstrated ability to assess, evaluate and solve problems and exercise initiative and judgment where practices and procedures are not clearly defined with the ability to use data to inform practice.
- Ability to work under general direction from senior employees and work with teams and people from diverse backgrounds and create a collaborative working environment
- Ability to set priorities, plan and organise their own work and that of lower classified staff and/or volunteers
- A valid Working With Children Check (or the ability obtain one) is a mandatory requirement for this role
