About the role:
A subsection of the Victoria Police Cybercrime Squad, the Digital Forensic Unit specialise in forensic examination of computers, mobile phones, and other data storage devices. Digital evidence is a key component of almost every investigation into serious criminal offending, and the Digital Forensics Unit plays a critical role in extracting, interpreting and presenting this digital or technology-derived evidence.
The Digital Forensic Unit is comprised of Subject Matter Specialists, Senior Digital Forensic Officers, Digital Forensic Officers, Digital Forensic Support Officers and Sworn Detectives. The Subject Matter Specialists lead, develop, train and provide specialist expertise to the unit, Victoria Police and Victorian Judicial system. They are also expected to undertake highly complex, high profile and sensitive casework.
The Digital Forensic Unit sits within the Victoria Police Crime & Counter Terrorism Investigation Services and provides Victoria Police with a specialist crime investigation capability involving digital evidence. The team maintain up to date expertise in modern trends, technologies, and advances in the digital forensic environment.
This role may require some work outside of standard business hours, including some early morning starts, weekend and public holiday work.

Your duties will include:
- Perform the role of Digital Forensics Subject Matter Specialist and one of the technical leads of the Digital Forensic Unit.
- Ensure Digital Forensic best practices are applied to the work and output produced by the Digital Forensic Unit and ensure these practices are up to date.
- Lead the development of technical and professional standards specific to the unit.
- Ensure that the output produced by the Digital Forensic Unit is suitable for briefs of evidence and prosecutions.
- Lead, train and develop a multidisciplinary team across the unit.
- Undertake highly complex escalated casework.
About You:
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Expert level knowledge and experience in digital forensics and digital evidence.
- Proven ability to lead a team of technical specialists in their respective specialisation.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Relevant tertiary studies or relevant industry certifications are required.
- Well developed conceptual and analytical skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in providing clear and accurate advice to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead the development of digital forensic capability, process efficiency and improvement.
Further Information:
- One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
- This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
- The successful applicant will be required to attend search warrant execution sites throughout Victoria or work at different locations to assist in policing operations. Warrant executions can occur outside normal business hours, depending on operational needs.
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
