About the Role
Reporting to the Director – Litigation and Workplace Law, the Litigation Lawyer will deliver quality legal services and practical advice in accordance with Nevett Ford’s professional standards and values.
The role will involve working across a broad range of litigation matters, including providing legal advice to clients, preparing court and tribunal documents, attending mediations and court hearings, briefing counsel, dealing with opposing solicitors and managing files from commencement through to resolution.
Our offices are located in the Rialto Towers in Melbourne’s CBD, with access to excellent nearby amenities including cafes, a gym and end-of-trip shower and locker facilities. Nevett Ford also offers hybrid working arrangements, including the option to work from home up to two days per week.
A competitive remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with experience.
What You’ll Bring
- Previous experience working within a legal firm in the area of litigation law, preferably with a focus on cases involving defendant insurance and liability litigation.
- Minimum 3 years’ Post Admission Experience, although we are open to considering a more senior candidate.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- The ability to provide clear, concise and accurate written advice and documentation.
- Sound judgement, initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Investigation experience, including interviewing key witnesses, would be highly regarded.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience using Dye & Durham’s Affinity Practice Management System would be desirable but is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clear and practical advice to clients on litigation matters.
- Prepare, file and serve court and tribunal documents.
- Draft correspondence, advice, submissions, recommendations and other legal documents.
- Review claim materials, discovered documents and expert reports.
- Attend court hearings, mediations and settlement conferences.
- Liaise with clients, counsel, experts, opposing solicitors and other relevant parties.
- Negotiate settlements and assist with settlement procedures.
- Manage allocated files proactively and in accordance with internal file management standards.
- Keep clients, directors and relevant stakeholders informed of matter progress.
- Work collaboratively with the broader Litigation & Workplace Law team.
