Introduction:
Strata Community Insurance (SCI) is on a mission to be the insurance partner of choice for the Strata community. Behind that mission sits twelve years of policy, claims, defect, and property data, and a Data Intelligence team migrating that estate onto Databricks while feeding a growing machine learning model.
We're looking for a Technical Business Analyst to join us on 12 month contract basis who can sit between business stakeholders and data engineers, and speak both languages fluently. You'll run requirements workshops, then go and prove those requirements are actually deliverable by querying the data yourself in SQL, across both our existing SQL Server estate and the new Databricks platform.
What you'll be doing
Leading requirements discovery through interviews and workshops, turning business questions into user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications
Producing source-to-target mappings and documenting the logic behind every derived field and business rule
Profiling and interrogating source data in SQL to test feasibility and confirm requirements can be met before they hit a sprint
Investigating data discrepancies to find true root cause, not just the symptom
Assessing new internal and third-party data sources for SCI's machine learning model, including coverage, match rate, and licensing considerations
Coordinating user acceptance testing and holding the line on acceptance criteria
Maintaining data definitions and lineage documentation that supports SCI's Data and Model Governance Framework
What you'll bring
3+ years' experience as a Business Analyst, with a strong track record in data, reporting, or analytics delivery
Strong, independent SQL skills you can profile data and reconcile a dataset without needing an engineer
Experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications
Experience producing source-to-target mappings, data quality rules, and test cases
Experience assessing and onboarding new or third-party data sources
Working knowledge of data warehouse concepts, including dimensional modelling and medallion architectures
Experience working in an agile environment with Jira or similar
