We are seeking an
Instrumentation & Controls Designer with 3+ years experience to support the development and delivery of instrumentation and control system designs for oil and gas facilities projects. In this role, you will work within multidisciplinary EPCM teams to develop design deliverables, coordinate with engineering disciplines, and contribute to project execution from concept through construction.

What You’ll Do
As an Instrumentation & Controls Designer reporting to the I&E Senior Designer in our Brisbane office, you will support the delivery of safe, reliable, and code-compliant instrumentation and control systems. Your role will include:
Instrumentation & Controls Design
- Prepare instrumentation and controls design deliverables including instrument location plans, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, junction box layouts, and installation details
- Develop and maintain instrument indexes, I/O lists, cable schedules, and related project documentation
- Support the development and updating of P&IDs, control system architecture drawings, and instrument datasheets
- Assist with material take-offs (MTOs), material requisitions, and specification documentation
- Utilize AutoCAD, CADWorx (3D), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/InTools), and related design tools to develop project deliverables
Coordination & Team Collaboration
- Work closely with process, piping, mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural disciplines to ensure coordinated facility designs
- Participate in design reviews and model reviews, incorporating feedback into design deliverables
- Support communication with internal project teams, vendors, and clients
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of department standards, procedures, and best practices
Project Execution & Delivery
- Support the delivery of instrumentation and controls design packages in alignment with scope, schedule, and quality requirements
- Review vendor documentation and incorporate approved information into project deliverables
- Assist with procurement support activities and technical documentation
- Maintain project documentation, drawing registers, and design files in accordance with company procedures
Construction & Field Support
- Support responses to RFIs and technical queries during construction and commissioning
- Participate in site visits, inspections, and field engineering activities as required
- Help ensure designs are practical, constructible, and aligned with project requirements
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Follow established engineering and design quality processes and procedures
- Support compliance with applicable Australian and international standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrate commitment to safety, environmental, and quality objectives throughout project execution
- Support verification and checking activities to ensure accurate and consistent deliverables
About You
You are a detail-oriented designer who enjoys technical design work, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to successful project outcomes. You bring:
- Full Australian work rights and you are based in Brisbane
- 3+ years of instrumentation and controls design experience in oil & gas, energy, industrial, or EPCM environments
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree in Engineering, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment
A proactive mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
Technical Foundation
- Understanding of instrumentation and control systems used within oil & gas and process facilities
- Experience preparing instrumentation design deliverables including loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, instrument datasheets, cable schedules, and instrument indexes
- Familiarity with PLC, DCS, SCADA, and field instrumentation systems
- Knowledge of instrumentation installation practices and control system documentation
- Exposure to functional safety principles is considered an asset
Software Proficiency
- Experience with AutoCAD and instrumentation design software
- Experience with CADWorx or similar 3D tools would be an advantage
- SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/InTools) experience considered an asset
- Familiarity with 3D model review tools such as Navisworks is considered an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
