The Safety and Engagement Workers will carry out a dual role of client liaison using client engagement skills, whilst also ensuring the safety of all people who attend the centre. In addition, this position will be tasked with de-escalation and incident response.
- Apply WHS, emergency response and evacuation procedures to maintain engagement and safety;
- Protect self and others using de-escalation techniques using a trauma informed approach;
- Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain engagement and safety;
- Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain engagement and safety using a trauma informed approach;
- Monitor entry and exit of persons within the centre;
- Monitor individual and crowd behaviour to maintain engagement and safety using a trauma informed approach;
- Apply engagement and safety procedures to manage intoxicated persons using a trauma informed approach;
- Apply engagement and safety procedures to remove persons from premises;
- Escort and support Senior Staff when administering warning and ban notices;
- Respond to any emergency cleaning situations (where required);
- Support with the development, maintenance and review of safety and engagement documents;
Create, maintain and review data spreadsheets or other record keeping documents as required.

What skills should YOU have?
- Demonstrated relevant experience preferable working in a similar environment/community service setting;
- Relevant computer skills in MS Office software and applications including data entry program;.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with people from a wide range of social-economic, multicultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds;
Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting the Aboriginal and TSI Community particularly in regard to transience and homelessness, cultural awareness and sensitivities.

Essential Criteria
- Ability to engage with people attending the centre, whilst providing trauma informed safety responses;
- Ability to work under general guidance within clearly defined procedures, methods and guidelines;
- Strong interpersonal skills and clear communication skills, including the ability to work with people who may have mental health, alcohol and other drugs issues, disabilities, or other issues;
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure;
- Well–organised with attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping;
- Ability to work effectively as a team member, willingness to assist in other areas to achieve team objectives;
- Ability to work independently when required and show initiative to solve problems within the framework of St Patrick’s mission, values and procedures.
