About the Role
I am working with a boutique business in the construction sector, based in Sydney, looking for an experienced and personable Accountant to join their team.
This role is ideal for someone with strong payroll and BAS knowledge who enjoys working directly with clients and building genuine, long-term relationships. You'll take ownership of key accounting functions while working closely with the Directors and supporting the broader business.
About You
We are looking for a detail-oriented, commercially minded and reliable Accountant who takes pride in delivering accurate financial information and building strong client relationships.
You will ideally have:
- 3–5 years' experience in accounting, including payroll
- Relevant accounting qualifications or currently working towards one
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, BAS and compliance requirements
- Proven experience managing payroll accurately and on time
- Experience with reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable and financial reporting
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting and payroll software
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing accurately and on time
- Prepare and lodge BAS statements in line with ATO requirements
- Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including reconciliations and reporting
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through regular communication
- Provide clear and practical advice to clients on accounting and compliance matters
- Support month-end and year-end accounting processes
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance requirements are met
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiency
Requirements
- 3–5 years' experience in accounting and payroll
- Strong knowledge of BAS preparation and lodgement
- Confident communicator who genuinely enjoys working with clients
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
- Relevant accounting qualification or currently working towards one
- Experience with accounting and payroll software
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting and compliance requirements
