The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Role
An exciting on-going opportunity is available for an analyst in the Workforce, Policy and Strategy Division. You will join a small and well-supported team that undertakes deep data analysis to support strategic decision-making in a dynamic environment.
You will use your analytical skills to interpret complex datasets and convert findings into insights. You will prepare data, research, analyse, and draft to reports, briefs and presentations.
In this role, you will:

Generate descriptive statistics and relevant data visualisation under the guidance of subject matter experts.

Considering the potential impact of data collection and data sources on analyses.

Utilise advanced excel formulas, pivot tables and generation of data charts, as required.

Communicate data insights in reports, slide decks, briefs and correspondence.

Resolve data issues using existing guidelines. Where guidelines are not available, act independently and in consultation with others to resolve problems.

Apply critical thinking and problem-solve independently and in consultation with others.
Your attributes include:

Experience with quantitative analysis and/or modelling, identifying ways to interrogate problems using data and analytical methods, and understanding and communicating the strengths and limitations of analysis

An ability to develop conceptual policy analysis using analytical frameworks. Being able to draw on experiences and lessons from other sectors to distil complexity.

The ability to communicate work on complex ideas to a range of senior stakeholders, and exercising good judgment in handling sensitive information
About the Team
The Workforce Analytics team has a variety of projects, including analytical work that breaks new ground - be that linking datasets for the first time or testing new hypotheses with quantitative data. Responding to open questions, thinking creatively about analyses and developing new quantitative models is an integral part of the team's work.
About the Division
The Workforce Policy and Strategy Division brings together workforce strategy, policy and data analytics to lead a strategic approach to the management and development of Victoria's school education workforce. The Division maintains departmental expertise in qualitative and quantitative analysis of the school-based workforces to support investment, quality improvement, and regional/system-level workforce management decisions. Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in a related field.
