As our Recreation and Community Development Officer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality aquatic services while leading initiatives that strengthen community participation, health and wellbeing across Murrindindi Shire.
About this opportunity
This is a diverse and rewarding role that combines leadership of Council's aquatic services with the delivery of recreation and community development initiatives that support healthy, connected and inclusive communities.
You will coordinate the operation of Council's aquatic facilities, lead a predominantly young aquatics workforce, and work collaboratively with sporting clubs, community groups and key stakeholders to deliver projects that enhance participation, recreation opportunities and community wellbeing. You will also contribute to strategic planning, funding opportunities and the implementation of Council's recreation and wellbeing priorities.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading the day-to-day coordination of Council's aquatic services, ensuring safe, compliant and customer-focused operations.
- Mentoring and developing a predominantly youth workforce, fostering leadership, teamwork and professional growth.
- Building strong relationships with community groups, sporting clubs and stakeholders to deliver recreation and community development initiatives.
- Supporting strategic planning, project delivery, grant funding and continuous improvement across recreation and community wellbeing services.
What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification (Diploma or Degree) in Recreation, Community Development, Community Engagement or a related discipline.
- A minimum of four years' relevant experience in recreation, aquatic services, community development or a similar field.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating recreation or aquatic programs and services. Experience in pool operations (highly regarded).
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to supervise, coach and mentor staff, particularly young employees, fostering a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture.
- A passion for developing young people and supporting them to build confidence, capability and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build community capacity and develop strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and public speaking skills, with experience engaging diverse community groups.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, budgets and project deadlines.
- Experience preparing reports, funding applications and project plans.
- Sound knowledge of risk management, occupational health and safety principles and relevant legislative requirements.
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with a genuine commitment to delivering positive community outcomes.
