Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve coffee, tea and other hot/cold beverages consistent with the restaurant’s standard recipes.
- Take food and beverage orders from guests with 100% accuracy.
- Operate the coffee machine, grinder and other café equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain consistency in coffee quality, presentation and taste.
- Learn the names and personally recognize our regular customers.
- Record orders accurately and immediately after receipt into the register system.
- Accept guest payments, process credit card charges and make change (if applicable).
- Wash and sanitize glassware, dishes and café equipment.
- Prepare and replenish display cabinet items, snacks and desserts.
- Organize café supplies, cups and stock in an attractive and functional manner to support efficient service.
- Clear and reset tables in café and dining areas.
- Present menus, make recommendations and answer questions regarding beverages and food items.
- Maintain cleanliness & sanitation in all café areas including counters, coffee stations, sinks, utensils, shelves and storage areas.
- Receive and serve food orders to guests seated in the café and restaurant area.
- Know all ingredients, cooking preparations and portion sizes for all items on current menus.
- Take food and beverage orders from guests, enter orders into our point-of-sale system which relays orders to the kitchen and bar with 100% accuracy.
- Deliver food and beverages from kitchen and bar to guests in a timely manner.
- Report all equipment problems and maintenance issues to restaurant manager.
- Assist the restocking and replenishment of café inventory and supplies.
- Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
- Complete any other tasks or directives issued by your Manager or Supervisors in a polite, timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Previous experience as a Barista or Hospitality All-Rounder preferred.
- Have working knowledge of coffee preparation, café beverages and basic food service.
- Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and operate a cash register.
- Be able to communicate and understand the predominant language(s) of our guests.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain high standards of personal presentation and hygiene.
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (in excess of 8 hours).
- Be flexible to work weekends, public holidays and evening shifts when required.
- Hold a valid Food Handling Certificate (preferred).
- Hold a valid RSA Certificate if serving alcohol (preferred).
Pay: $24.95 – $32.00 per hour
