Role Type: 12-month full time contract
Salary: $86,485 – $105,325 p.a plus superannuation
The opportunity:
Join the Epilepsy Team within MCRI's Neuroscience Group and contribute to cutting-edge translational research advancing the understanding and diagnosis of neurological disorders. We are seeking a Research Assistant to support innovative stem cell, genomic and tissue-based research through the Gene-STEPS and BRAINtegrate programs, working alongside a collaborative team dedicated to improving outcomes for people with epilepsy.
What you’ll do
Culture, maintain, expand, cryopreserve and characterise human iPSC cultures
Differentiate, maintain and characterise iPSC-derived neuronal cultures for functional genomic studies
Collect, process and biobank human neurosurgical tissue specimens
Prepare tissue samples for single-cell and spatial transcriptomic workflows
Contribute to data generation for research projects and publications
What you’ll bring
Honours or Masters qualification in Science, Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience or a related discipline
At least 3 years' experience in biomedical research laboratories
Proficiency in mammalian cell culture, including human iPSC and iPSC-derived neuronal culture systems
Experience in Molecular and cellular biology techniques, including PCR, protein and nucleic acid extraction, and downstream genomic analyses
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
