Join our Enterprise Risk team and help strengthen risk management capability across the Department.
We are seeking a motivated and collaborative Risk Officer to support the Department’s enterprise risk function. In this role, you will support the development and maintenance of the Department's risk management framework, registers and tools, helping business areas effectively identify, assess and manage risks to achieve their objectives and meet legislative and policy obligations.
About the role
As a Risk Officer, you will work closely with business units and stakeholders across the Department to contribute to the delivery of risk management activities by providing practical advice, facilitating risk assessments, supporting risk reporting, and assisting with the review and oversight of risk controls and treatment plans. You will also play an important role in maintaining risk management documentation, developing guidance materials and supporting initiatives that strengthen risk management practices across the Department.
You will assist in the review and continuous improvement of risk management policies, procedures and tools to ensure they remain practical, effective and aligned with better practice. Your ability to communicate clearly and analyse information will help support informed decision-making and strengthen risk management outcomes across the Department.
Reporting to the Associate Director Enterprise Risk, you will contribute to fostering a positive risk culture and work collaboratively with stakeholders to support the ongoing uplift of risk maturity and capability across the Department.
What you will be doing as Risk Officer –
- Supporting the development, implementation and continuous improvement of risk management policies, procedures, processes and systems.
- Developing and maintaining risk registers, documentation and associated records in line with departmental standards, and supporting stakeholders to apply risk management frameworks, tools and controls.
- Providing practical and informed advice on enterprise and operational risk matters, including facilitating risk assessments and supporting stakeholders to identify risks, assess controls and develop mitigation strategies.
- Developing guidance materials and contributing to risk management training, awareness initiatives and capability-building activities.
- Preparing and contributing to reports, briefs and risk insights for internal and external stakeholders.
- Building effective working relationships with stakeholders to support the Department's risk management objectives and uplift organisational risk maturity.
- Supporting the implementation of enterprise and climate change risk initiatives across the Department.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in risk management, governance, compliance, audit or a related discipline with an understanding of risk management frameworks and practices
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefing materials and guidance documentation, and communicate risk concepts to a range of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research issues, analyse information and contribute to practical risk-based solutions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience building effective working relationships and collaborating with stakeholders across diverse teams.
- Experience facilitating workshops, training, or stakeholder engagement activities to support risk management capability and awareness is desirable.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and promoting a positive risk culture.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent practical experience in risk management, governance, business, audit, compliance or a related field.
