Accounts Payable / Receivable Officer
Brisbane, Queensland
At Populous, our projects bring people together—and behind every successful project is a finance team helping our people make informed decisions and deliver their best work.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Accounts Payable / Receivable Officer to join our Asia Pacific Finance team in Brisbane.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with early-career finance experience in the architecture, engineering or construction sector who is ready to broaden their capabilities. You will work across accounts payable, accounts receivable and project accounting, while gaining exposure to month-end processes, regional reporting, audit and taxation activities.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, Asia Pacific, you will work closely with project leaders, suppliers, clients and finance colleagues across the region.
About the role
This is a varied role combining day-to-day financial administration with project and general accounting responsibilities. You will help ensure our projects are invoiced accurately, payments are processed efficiently and financial records remain complete and reliable.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating the preparation of project invoices in line with contractual terms, fee agreements and cash-flow requirements
- Working with project teams to obtain accurate and timely invoicing information
- Reconciling client receipts against invoices and maintaining accurate customer accounts
- Following up outstanding accounts professionally and constructively
- Investigating invoice queries, discrepancies and payment issues
- Reviewing and coding subcontractor and supplier invoices
- Entering invoices into the finance system and ensuring the appropriate supporting documentation and approvals are in place
- Coordinating supplier and subcontractor payments in accordance with agreed terms and project deliverables
- Maintaining accurate supplier and financial records
- Preparing balance-sheet and profit-and-loss reconciliations
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes
- Assisting with annual audits and tax-return processes across the Asia Pacific region
- Providing broader support to the Financial Controller and assisting with team coverage when required
About you
You will be someone who enjoys working with detail while understanding the broader purpose behind the numbers. You are organised, responsive and comfortable building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- One to two years’ experience in an operational finance, accounts or assistant accounting role
- Experience working within an architecture, engineering or construction environment
- Sound knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable and project accounting
- Experience working within multi-company and multi-currency accounting structures
- Strong reconciliation skills and an understanding of month-end accounting processes
- Confidence working with finance and accounting systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to investigate issues, manage competing priorities and follow tasks through to completion
- A collaborative, service-focused approach when working with internal and external stakeholders
A tertiary qualification in accounting, finance or a related discipline will be highly regarded, as will experience in public accounting or using Deltek.
