SMART-LINK HOMEWARES is a Sydney-based importer and wholesale supplier of homewares and everyday consumer products.
Our range includes kitchen and dining products, cleaning and bathroom supplies, packaging, hardware and tools, gardening products, office supplies, giftware, seasonal products and other general merchandise. We supply retail and commercial customers across Australia through product sourcing, local inventory, wholesale supply and nationwide distribution.
The business is entering its next stage of growth. In addition to strengthening our existing wholesale operations, we plan to expand into the development, importation and promotion of practical, age-friendly products that support the comfort, safety and independence of older people.
We are looking for an experienced General Manager to lead the company’s operations and support its continued growth.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Director, the General Manager will oversee the company’s day-to-day operations and provide leadership across procurement, sales, marketing, inventory, warehousing, distribution, finance and administration.
This is a senior, hands-on role suited to someone who can set the overall direction of the business while remaining closely involved in operational and commercial decisions.
The General Manager will be responsible for improving business performance, strengthening internal systems, developing new markets and ensuring that resources are used effectively.
Key Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- developing and implementing business plans, operational priorities and performance targets;
- overseeing the company’s wholesale, procurement, sales, marketing, inventory, warehousing and distribution activities;
- identifying opportunities to expand the customer base, product range and sales channels;
- leading the development, sourcing, importation and market introduction of age-friendly products for older consumers;
- assessing customer needs, market demand and product suitability in the age-friendly and independent-living sectors;
- establishing relationships with suitable manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, retailers and community-sector organisations;
- reviewing business performance and introducing practical measures to improve revenue, profitability and operational efficiency;
- overseeing budgets, expenditure, cash flow, product margins and financial forecasts;
- reviewing and approving major supplier arrangements and commercial terms;
- directing product sourcing, procurement, inventory planning and logistics strategies;
- maintaining relationships with key domestic and international suppliers and business customers;
- establishing clear policies, procedures, reporting systems and performance controls;
- determining staffing and resource requirements and setting clear reporting responsibilities;
- managing and reviewing the performance of key employees;
- assessing proposed projects, investments and new business initiatives;
- monitoring market trends, customer demand, competitor activity and business risks;
- ensuring compliance with workplace, corporate, financial and work health and safety requirements; and
- representing the company in major negotiations with suppliers, customers, advisers and other stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful applicant will have:
- a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in business management, commerce, accounting, finance, marketing or a related field (at least five years of relevant management experience may substitute for the formal qualification);
- at least 10 years of management experience, including at least five years in a senior management role;
- experience overseeing several business functions, such as operations, sales, procurement, marketing, finance or administration;
- demonstrated experience developing and implementing business plans and operational procedures;
- experience managing budgets, costs, revenue forecasts and business performance;
- experience assessing new products, markets, projects or commercial opportunities;
- experience managing employees, suppliers, contractors and external stakeholders;
- strong commercial judgement, negotiation and problem-solving skills; and
- clear and effective communication skills.
- Mandarin language skills will be highly regarded, particularly for communicating with overseas suppliers and business partners.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:
- wholesale, importing, distribution, retail or consumer products;
- managing a small or medium-sized business or a major division within a larger organisation;
- product sourcing, procurement and supplier negotiations;
- establishing and managing international supplier relationships;
- product development and the introduction of new product ranges;
- age-friendly products, independent-living products, mobility-related consumer products or products designed for older people;
- inventory planning, warehousing, logistics and distribution;
- business-to-business sales and customer development;
- developing new retail, wholesale or online sales channels; and
- supporting business growth or organisational change.
Pay: $180,000.00 – $200,000.00 per year
