Join a collaborative and innovative team that plays a vital role in supporting practical teaching, learning and research within UniSQ’s Creative Arts environment. As a Technical Support Advisor, you’ll work across dynamic studio, workshop and laboratory spaces, helping to create safe, engaging and industry-relevant learning experiences for students and staff.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply and expand your technical expertise across a diverse range of creative disciplines including timber and metalworking, ceramics and printmaking. Working closely with academics, students and technical colleagues, you’ll contribute to the smooth operation of specialist facilities while supporting hands-on learning, research capability and continuous improvement across the work area.
Who you are
You’re a proactive and adaptable technical professional who enjoys working in practical, fast-paced environments and supporting others to succeed. You bring a collaborative mindset, strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to delivering high quality technical support and customer service.
You’ll resonate with this role if you enjoy sharing your expertise, working across a variety of technical disciplines and contributing to positive student learning experiences. You’re motivated by the opportunity to make a visible impact through safe and effective workshop, studio and laboratory operations, while building strong working relationships with staff, students and colleagues.
What you'll do
In this role, you’ll provide specialist technical and operational support across Creative Arts studios, workshops and teaching spaces, ensuring facilities, equipment and materials are safe, well maintained and ready to support practical classes and research activities.
Over your first 6–12 months, you’ll build strong relationships with academic and technical teams, contribute to the smooth delivery of teaching activities, and help enhance technical processes and service delivery across the work area. You’ll provide expert advice, expertise and guidance to staff and students, support the safe use of specialised equipment and materials, and contribute to workplace health and safety activities, including risk assessments and compliance processes.
You’ll also play an important role in maintaining facility records and equipment data, supporting continuous improvement initiatives and contributing to a responsive, service-focused team environment. Through your expertise and initiative, you’ll help deliver engaging and high-quality practical learning experiences that support student success.
What will help you succeed
You’ll bring relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in a technical, workshop, studio, theatre or laboratory environment, together with strong practical knowledge of machinery, tools, equipment and technical processes.
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring:
-
Experience supporting practical teaching, research or creative environments
-
Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices and compliance requirements including management of hazardous substances in the workplace
-
Experience providing technical advice and support to staff and students
-
The ability to maintain and operate specialised equipment, facilities and materials
-
A proactive approach to continuous improvement and service delivery
-
Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams
-
Adaptability and willingness to broaden your skills across a range of creative and technical disciplines
Most importantly, you’ll bring a commitment to service excellence, teamwork and creating safe, effective and engaging learning environments for students and staff.
