About the Role
As a Cheesemonger & Retail Assistant, you will be a welcoming face of Le Cheeserie. You’ll help guide our customers through a cheese journey offering expert advice, cut-to-order cheese service, and recommendations that keep them coming back for more.
Due to the nature of our market environment, weekend availability and flexibility during peak trade periods (such as Christmas and Easter) are essential. We are open right up until 24th December, so full availability during this week is required for the position.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Deliver warm, personalised, and engaging service to every customer who walks up to our counter.
- Learn our range to confidently recommend pairings, offer tastings, and upsell items with ease.
- Maintain strict cheese hygiene, storage, stock rotation, and display standards to ensure our products look and taste exceptional.
- Handle transactions and manage wait times during busy market rushes.
- Strictly adhere to all food safety standards and workplace health guidelines.
- We run the Canberra Cheese Festival, masterclasses, fondue, raclette, and caviar nights. A willingness to work at these evening/daytime events is highly valued.
Requirements & Desired Skills
- Current RSA
- Friendly, confident, and engaging personality with excellent communication skills.
- A genuine love for cheese, fine food, and wine is a huge plus!
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small team, we support each other.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and standing for extended periods.
- High standard of personal hygiene, clean work habits, and basic math/admin skills for scale operations and register handling.
- Previous retail, hospitality, or deli experience is preferred, but passion and eagerness to learn are paramount!
Pay: From $30.00 per hour
