About Us
BlackBear BBQ is a busy American-style BBQ restaurant specialising in low and slow smoked meats, burgers, loaded fries, sides and catering. We are looking for an experienced Chef / Cook / Service Coordinator to join our fast-paced kitchen team.
This is a hands-on role that combines food preparation and cooking with coordinating kitchen service and managing order flow during busy periods.
The Role
You will be responsible for preparing and cooking food to a high standard while helping coordinate kitchen operations during service. This role suits someone confident working grill, fryer and pass in a high-volume environment who can stay calm and organised under pressure.
Depending on experience, the role may also include assisting with ordering, stock control, kitchen organisation and supporting junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking menu items to a high standard
- Running grill, fryer and pass during busy service periods
- Reading, managing and coordinating incoming orders and dockets
- Calling orders and communicating effectively with kitchen staff
- Maintaining consistency, speed and food presentation standards
- Monitoring stock levels and notifying management of ordering requirements
- Assisting with stock rotation, prep and cool room organisation
- Supporting kitchen cleaning and maintaining food safety standards
- Assisting with opening and closing procedures
- Working efficiently under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude
About You
- Previous experience in a busy café, takeaway, restaurant, pub or hospitality kitchen
- Confidence working grill, fryer and pass
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and manage service flow during busy periods
- Ability to work autonomously and take initiative
- Reliable, punctual and hard-working
- Strong attention to detail
- Fluent English and good customer service skills
- Positive attitude and team-focused mindset
- Own transport preferred due to early starts and late finishes
Highly Regarded
- Kitchen leadership or supervisory experience
- Ordering and stock control experience
- Catering experience
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
