Primary objective
As part of a high performing Chief Minister and Cabinet (CMC) shared services team, provide financial, taxation and
accounting services to ensure the accuracy, performance and effectiveness of the agency meeting compliance and
government frameworks. CMC shared service team provides financial services for the Department of the Chief Minister and
Cabinet and Department of Treasury and Finance.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Administer system access and training for NTG Pay and Expense8 (Electronic Credit Card Management).
2. Application of Australian Accounting Standards, government legislation, taxation, policies and procedures including the
Financial Management Act and Treasurer’s Directions.
3. Ensure agency compliance with financial policies, procedures and practices.
4. Lead governance activity including reconciliations and audits and undertake month end financial reporting requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. High level of skill, knowledge and experience of accrual accounting including demonstrated high level of attention to
detail and the ability to investigate and advise on all financial and accounting issues including accounts payable, accounts
receivable, general ledger, journals, taxation and applicable government frameworks.
2. Knowledge and experience in preparation of financial reports including financial statements, adhoc financial reports and
audit requirements and compliance with government frameworks etc.
3. High level competency in the use of office software, financial systems, excel, word and report generation tools.
4. Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, using initiative and sound judgement and manage
priorities to deliver quality outcomes in a changing environment with tight deadlines.
5. Proven ability to management pressure, maintain flexibility, have a high level of motivation, be an innovative thinker and
uphold a high level of confidentiality.
6. High level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to negotiate and resolve conflict with a
range of stakeholders.
Desirable
1. An understanding of NT Government financial processes and principles including the Financial Management Act and
Treasurer’s Directions
2. Qualifications in accounting, finance or business.
