About the position
Commitment Issues Pty Ltd, a bar and café located at 210 Greenhill Road, Eastwood SA 5063, is seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join its kitchen team.
The successful applicant will plan and organise food preparation and cooking, contribute to menu development, oversee food quality and help maintain an efficient, safe and well-organised commercial kitchen.
Duties and responsibilities
- Plan and develop menus in consultation with management
- Estimate food requirements, food costs and kitchen labour requirements
- Order ingredients and inspect food supplies for quality and freshness
- Prepare, cook and present dishes in accordance with established recipes and standards
- Monitor the quality of dishes throughout preparation, cooking and presentation
- Ensure portion sizes, flavours and presentation meet the venue’s standards
- Discuss food-preparation and service matters with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house employees
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on preparation and cooking procedures
- Assist with developing and standardising recipes
- Manage stock rotation, food storage and inventory control
- Monitor food costs and minimise wastage
- Prepare meals that accommodate allergies and special dietary requirements
- Explain, implement and enforce food-safety, hygiene and workplace-safety requirements
- Coordinate kitchen operations during service
- Assist with selecting, training and supervising junior kitchen employees
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen
- Work collaboratively with management and front-of-house employees
Qualifications and experience
Applicants must have:
- An AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in commercial cookery, hospitality or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent overseas qualification; or
- At least three years of relevant full-time experience as a Chef, which may substitute for the formal qualification
Applicants must also demonstrate:
- At least two years of relevant experience in a commercial kitchen
- Experience planning and organising food preparation and cooking
- Experience preparing and presenting a varied café and bar menu
- Experience with menu planning, food costing, ordering and stock control
- Sound knowledge of food-safety and kitchen-hygiene requirements
- Experience training or supervising junior kitchen employees
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- The ability to work efficiently during busy services
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
Pay: $80,000.00 per year
