About the Role
As Head of Technology Strategy & Business Management, you will operate as a key strategic partner to the Chief Solutions & Data Officer (CSDO), playing a critical leadership role in shaping and executing Avant’s technology and security agenda.
Sitting at the intersection of strategy, governance, architecture, finance and people, this role ensures the Group Solutions division operates with clarity, discipline and accountability. You will enable the CSDO to focus on enterprise priorities while translating strategic intent into measurable, business-aligned outcomes across a complex, regulated environment.
This is a highly visible leadership role where you will influence decision-making, drive alignment across senior stakeholders, and embed a high-performance culture across the technology function.
Key Accountabilities:
General Management
- Lead and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary Technology Strategy and Business Management function, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and psychological safety
- Define and implement a clear operating model aligned to the CSDO’s strategic agenda
- Build capability across governance, risk and business management disciplines while attracting and retaining top talent
- Drive performance, engagement and capability uplift across the team
Chief Solutions & Data Officer Strategy
- Partner with the CSDO to shape and evolve the technology strategy aligned to organisational priorities
- Translate strategic ambition into a clear, actionable multi-year roadmap
- Lead planning cycles including annual planning, quarterly reviews and horizon scanning
- Drive alignment across the technology portfolio, identifying dependencies, risks and opportunities
Vendor Management (incl. MSPs)
- Oversee governance of all technology vendors and managed service providers
- Lead key vendor activities including onboarding, renewals and performance management
- Optimise vendor landscape to balance cost, risk and capability outcomes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including APRA standards
Chief Solutions & Data Officer Reporting
- Own executive and Board reporting, ensuring clarity, insight and quality
- Coordinate Board papers, risk committee submissions and executive briefings
- Maintain consistent reporting standards and governance cadence
- Act as key liaison with Company Secretariat
Performance Management & KPI Reporting
- Design and manage performance frameworks including scorecards and KPI dashboards
- Monitor delivery against strategic objectives and drive accountability across teams
- Provide clear, data-driven insights to support decision-making
- Align technology metrics to business value and service performance
Technology Architecture
- Lead enterprise, solution and technical architecture functions
- Ensure architecture aligns to strategy, standards and roadmaps
- Govern technology decisions through Architecture Review Boards
- Partner with vendors to assess emerging technologies and inform platform strategy
Financial & Budget Management
- Lead budgeting and forecasting for the Group Solutions division
- Provide financial insights, reporting and variance analysis to the CSDO
- Partner with Finance to ensure strong financial governance and decision support
Marketing & Communications
- Develop internal communications to promote the value of Group Solutions
- Deliver clear, engaging messaging for senior stakeholders and business partners
- Oversee content including executive briefings, intranet and divisional updates
- Support the CSDO in internal representation and engagement forums
People & Culture
- Champion a high-performing, inclusive and values-driven culture
- Partner with People & Culture to drive workforce planning and capability development
- Support leadership effectiveness, engagement and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead key forums including town halls, strategy sessions and leadership events
IT Governance & Compliance
- Ensure robust governance frameworks, policies and controls are embedded
- Maintain compliance with regulatory obligations across technology and operations
- Promote a strong risk and compliance culture across the function
- Represent TSBM in enterprise governance and risk forums
Key Capabilities Required:
- Significant senior leadership experience (10+ years) across technology strategy, business management or chief of staff roles in complex, regulated environments
- Proven experience supporting C-suite executives in financial services, insurance or similar sectors
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets, vendors and governance processes
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to deliver Board-level materials
- Deep understanding of Australian regulatory requirements, including APRA
Preferred Experience:
- Background in insurance or financial services technology environments
- Familiarity with IT governance frameworks (e.g. ITIL, COBIT)
- Experience delivering large-scale technology transformation programs
- Strong understanding of contemporary vendor and MSP governance models
