Synopsis:
The Takeovers Panel are seeking an APS5 Paralegal located in Melbourne and able to work full time to join its high performing in house legal team (the Panel Executive).
About the role
The Takeovers Panel is a peer review body that regulates corporate control transactions in widely held Australian entities, primarily by the efficient, effective and speedy resolution of takeover disputes. It is recognised for its commercial and pragmatic approach and has played a major role in ensuring an efficient, competitive and informed market for takeovers and other corporate control transactions.
The successful applicant will gain highly regarded exposure to mergers and acquisitions and other corporate control transactions within a statutory decision-making body. The role offers valuable experience engaging with leading practitioners, regulators and market participants and developing legal skills in a fast paced, high profile environment that is directly relevant to future careers in corporate law, regulation and policy.
Duties of the Paralegal
Assist in the day-to-day management of applications before the Panel to ensure their efficient and timely resolution, consistently with the purposes set out in section 602 of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), the requirements of the legislation and procedural fairness including:
drafting correspondence and matter related documents
analysing and summarising information and documents.
Provide administrative support for Panel proceedings, including maintaining matter files, contact lists, data rooms, publishing media releases and assisting the legal staff throughout the proceedings.
Assist the Takeovers Panel in drafting policy and guidance on issues arising under its jurisdiction by undertaking legal research.
Assist in the Panel’s liaison with related agencies, industry groups, regulatory and professional bodies and external stakeholders on matters relating to the Panel's operations.
Communicate with parties to Panel proceedings (including leading lawyers in their field) and other stakeholders.
Desirable Skills / Experience
Have completed or be undertaking a law degree, other legal study or have previous paralegal experience.
Have availability to work full time.
Be located in Melbourne, Victoria.
