Lead the transformation of telephony and unified communications across a national healthcare environment

St Vincent’s Health Australia is seeking a highly experienced Senior Communications / Unified Communications Engineer to play a key role in delivering our network modernisation roadmap, with a strong focus on telephony, unified communications, and cloud-based contact centre platforms.
Working closely with the Head of Networks & Communications, Unified Communications Manager, Senior Communications Engineers, Network Architect, and key business stakeholders, you will help design, uplift, and modernise critical communications platforms across a complex, multi-site healthcare environment.
A key component of this role will be undertaking a comprehensive assessment of the current communications environment, including legacy platforms and device ecosystems, to inform future roadmap development, hybrid cloud design, and long-term transformation planning.
While heavily focused on project delivery and transformation, you will also be a key member of the operational UC team, supporting the ongoing stability and performance of critical communications infrastructure.

Lead delivery of unified communications components within the enterprise network and communications roadmap

Conduct current-state assessments of telephony, UC platforms, and communications infrastructure to support roadmap and design planning

Contribute to future-state architecture discussions, including hybrid cloud and on-premise communications models

Design and implement modern telephony and UC platforms, including cloud-based voice and contact centre solutions

Deliver transformation across a broad UC landscape, spanning both legacy and modern platforms

Support and evolve:
-
Traditional PABX platforms (e.g. Avaya, Mitel, Cisco CUCM)
-
VoIP / SIP and Cisco Webex environments
-
Microsoft Teams Voice and UCaaS platforms
-
Cloud contact centre solutions (e.g. Genesys or equivalent)
-
Lead upgrades and enhancements across nurse call systems, paging, mobile voice, and clinical communications platforms

Configure and optimise end-to-end telephony environments, ensuring performance, resilience, and integration

Work closely with network, cloud, and cybersecurity teams to deliver secure, integrated communications services

Provide senior technical leadership in incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis

Engage with telco providers, UC vendors, and managed service partners to deliver outcomes and resolve issues

Participate in operational support, including incident response and platform monitoring

Be part of the on-call roster and provide occasional on-site support as required

Extensive experience in unified communications, telephony, and voice engineering within large enterprise environments

Strong hands-on experience across a mix of legacy and modern communications platforms, including:

Traditional PABX systems (e.g. Avaya, Mitel, Cisco)

VoIP / SIP and enterprise telephony platforms
-
Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams Voice, and modern collaboration platforms
-
Cloud-based contact centres (e.g. Genesys or similar)

Demonstrated experience performing environment assessments, audits, or discovery work to support transformation roadmaps

Strong understanding of hybrid communications environments, integrating on-premise and cloud-based solutions

Proven experience delivering UC transformation, migration, or modernisation programs

Strong troubleshooting capability managing high-impact incidents and escalations

Experience working across both project and operational environments

Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical, clinical, and business teams

Solid understanding of ITIL-aligned service management practices

Experience with Teams Voice or UCaaS transformations

Exposure to mobile device management and endpoint integration (e.g. Intune)

Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated, mission-critical environments

Hybrid working model with minimum 3 days per week on-site

Participation in an on-call roster is required

Occasional travel or on-site support across facilities may be required

Deliver a major unified communications and telephony transformation program

Work across both legacy platform uplift and modern cloud UC transformation

Influence roadmap, design, and future-state architecture decisions
