The NSW Department of Education operates one of Australia's largest and most diverse technology environments, supporting more than 2,200 schools and hundreds of thousands of users across the state. We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, can bring structure to complexity, and takes pride in getting technology safely and successfully into production.
This is a hands-on role where you'll work closely with project teams, operational teams and technology leaders to improve how we transition new and changed services into production. You'll have the opportunity to help mature our Service Transition capability while remaining close to delivery and making a tangible difference every day.
What you’ll do
- Provide end-to-end governance for all service transitions into production, ensuring consistency, compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Oversee transition planning and execution for new/changed/retired services introduced securely and effectively.
- Manage release transition planning, scheduling, and assurance by evaluating risks across availability, performance, security, and compliance and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
- Define transition scope, requirements, and acceptance criteria to guarantee services are operable, supportable, and scalable, aligned to business and operational needs.
- Drive stakeholder engagement and communication across IT teams, vendors, developers, and operational partners—aligning expectations and decisions.
- Advise on transition readiness and change impacts to enable informed decisions and value realization.
- Continuously improve transition and change processes, keeping them current and aligned to enterprise service management standards.
- Coordinate delivery across distributed teams, ensuring consistent practices and outcomes.
- Develop contingency transitional arrangements when impacts are uncertain.
- Handle complex and challenging situations by maintaining stakeholder alignment and ensuring the sustainability of service provision through timely resolution.

You'll be collaborative, organised and pragmatic, with the confidence to work across technical teams, project managers, operational support teams and vendors to deliver successful outcomes.
You'll also bring:
- Experience in IT Service Transition, Release Management, Operational Readiness or a similar role within a complex technology environment.
- Experience with project delivery methodologies including PRINCE2, Agile or Lean.
- The ability to identify and manage operational risks and develop practical transition plans in changing environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence outcomes across multiple teams.
- Experience ensuring technology services are operationally ready, supportable and sustainable before they go live.
- Demonstrated capability to handle complex, time-sensitive challenges and ensure sustainable service provision through resolution and follow-through Competence in risk assessment across availability, performance, security, and compliance
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, and/or equivalent industry experience.
- Hold a current ITIL 4 Managing Professional (MP) or ITIL 4 Practice Manager (PIC) certification (or equivalent senior ITIL v3 certification with a commitment to transition to ITIL 4.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
