The primary role of the SRMO– Orthopaedics is, under direction and supervision, to review the needs of inpatients and outpatients and to provide appropriate care and services to secure optimum health outcomes.
There is an expectation that this position will contribute to the Orthopaedic on-call roster as published with expectations of a 1 in 6 roster for weekdays and weekends.
This position offers an opportunity for further Orthopaedic training and operative experience for a candidate considering an Orthopaedic career in a contemporary setting supported by the latest equipment at a state-of-the-art Level 5 facility.
The SRMO provides clinical assessments, management advice, care of emergency admissions and works with inpatients as required and directed, performing any necessary operative procedures required for the care and treatment of such patients and the arrangement of patient admission and discharge processes.
The SRMO will attend and assess patients in the Emergency Department and provide operative care / assistance on patients in theatres during rostered hours and while on call.
The SRMOs are supervised by senior medical staff to ensure they are entrusted with responsibilities commensurate within their capabilities. The Head of the Department or their delegate will conduct the mid-term and end-of-term assessments and provide feedback where appropriate.

Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients. The hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs, extensive digital imaging / diagnostic facilities, medical centre collocated with ED, state of the art education and interactive SIM centre and a Helipad for Emergency Transport.
The Northern Beaches Hospital provides a high standard of education and training, with dedicated supervisors, teachers and a JMO Unit that supports all activities related to rostering, training, education and welfare of junior doctors.
On level 4 of the 9-storey hospital is the Education Centre where doctors can access a range of facilities. These include the latest technology for teaching, simulation and presentations, plus various meeting rooms and conference areas.
There is capability to stream education sessions to/from other facilities, as well as within the hospital for the simulation rooms and theatres.
