Bankstown Sports Club are currently seeking an experienced Sous Chef to work alongside our Head Chef on a Full-Time basis within our iconic Italian restaurant. About You
You are a motivated and experienced culinary professional who thrives in a busy kitchen environment. This role is suited to someone who demonstrates strong leadership capability, takes initiative, and is committed to mentoring and developing others.
With extensive experience in professional kitchens, you are confident managing daily operations, supporting kitchen teams, and ensuring consistent delivery of quality food offerings. You lead by example, maintain high standards, and bring a strong focus on teamwork, communication, and guest experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day management of kitchen operations
- Oversee food production and service to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to recipes
- Ensure all kitchen staff are prepared and informed of daily requirements
- Supervise, delegate tasks, and coach kitchen team members
- Maintain strong communication between kitchen and front of house teams
- Ensure stock levels, preparation, and ordering are maintained at the correct quality and quantity
- Monitor workflow and productivity across the kitchen team
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment in line with food safety and council standards
- Ensure all food is correctly labelled, stored, and handled
- Assist with menu planning, product development, and specials in collaboration with the Head Chef
- Participate in stocktaking, ordering, and menu costing as required
- Support training, mentoring, and development of kitchen staff
Essential requirements:
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in a professional kitchen (essential)
- Trade Qualification in Commercial Cookery (Cert III minimum)
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- Proven ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
- Excellent time management, planning, and organisational skills
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Solid knowledge of food safety, WHS, and compliance standards
- Ability to take initiative and lead service in the Head Chef’s absence
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Availability to work a flexible roster including nights, weekends, and public holidays
