About the Role
We are seeking an energetic, commercially minded Rural Merchandise Manager to lead our retail operations and expand our on-farm sales footprint. In this role, you will hold dual responsibility: driving in-store inventory, supplier negotiations, and team leadership, while actively traveling on-farm to consult with local producers.
This is a uniquely diverse category management role requiring technical sales confidence across livestock production (beef and sheep) and multi-sector plant protection (broadacre, horticulture, and viticulture).
Key Responsibilities
- Sales & Category Leadership: Drive commercial sales across animal health (cattle/sheep), crop protection chemicals, viticulture/horticulture inputs, pasture seed, and bulk fertilizer.
- On-Farm Consultation: Build trusted relationships with Northeast Victorian farmers by conducting site visits, analysing product needs, and delivering tailored technical advice.
- Inventory & Buying Power: Oversee stock procurement, manage key supplier partnerships, and maximize independent store margins.
- Team & Floor Management: Lead, roster, and mentor our tight-knit store team, ensuring high merchandising standards and a safety-first workplace culture.
- Regulatory Compliance: Manage the safe storage, handling, and tracking of agricultural chemicals in strict accordance with Agsafe compliance codes.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven Rural Retail Experience: Strong commercial background operating within an Australian rural supplies network.
- Multi-Sector Ag Knowledge: Practical technical understanding of cattle/sheep animal health alongside crop protection programs for broadacre systems, orchards, and vineyards.
- A High-Performing Sales Track Record: Demonstrated ability to hit sales targets, cross-sell products, and seamlessly transition from counter sales to on-farm relationship management.
- Licences & Credentials: Current Agsafe accreditation and a Forklift license (LF) are highly preferred (or a willingness to secure them quickly).
- Unrestricted Driver's Licence: A valid manual driver’s licence is mandatory for farm travel.
