Mental Health Support Worker – Family & Carer Mental Health Program
Support families and carers to build confidence, resilience and wellbeing.
Join Uniting’s Family & Carer Mental Health Program and provide practical and emotional support to families and carers of people experiencing mental health challenges. You’ll help carers build their skills, confidence and capacity while supporting their own wellbeing and strengthening their relationships with their loved ones.
About the role
Employment Type: Part - time (3 days a week, Monday to Wednesday)
Location: Penrith, with community outreach
Roster: Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm
Classification: SCHADS Level 2 $36.22 - $39.53 per hour plus generous salary packaging benefits
Role Overview
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you’ll provide individual support, advocacy, education and training to families and carers. You’ll also facilitate carer support groups and develop individual support plans that help carers achieve their goals.
Working within a recovery-oriented and person-centred approach, you’ll support carers to build resilience, strengthen coping skills and develop the confidence to support their loved ones.
About you
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:
- Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health, or equivalent and relevant to the field of work.
- Understanding of experiences, needs and challenges of carers of people with mental illness
- Experience providing individual advocacy for families and carers of people with a mental illness.
- Ability to facilitate support groups for families and carers.
- Understanding and application of the principles of Recovery Oriented Practice.
- Demonstrated ability to develop individual support plans with carers, with a focus on supporting the carer to reach their goals.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Experience in the Microsoft Package
- Valid Driver’s Licence
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in the using the Outcomes Star
- Database experience such has Care link
