What you'll be doing
The Advanced Trainee in Ophthalmology is to provide excellent clinical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings and provide effective clinical management of patients. There will be opportunities to perform operating lists under appropriate supervision, make patient assessments and treatment decisions, performing procedures. The advanced trainee will develop expertise in ophthalmic practice in a complex clinical environment that includes supervised ophthalmic medical management of patients admitted to the hospital and in outpatient clinics. The advanced trainee will further enhance clinical skills by participating in clinical duties in the terms within the Sydney/Sydney Eye and Prince of Wales Hospitals Training Schemes and may include rotations to peripheral hospitals under the network within NSW and interstates. Additional / Alternative clinical attachments can be negotiated with the Director of Clinical Services and the Professor of Ophthalmology prior to commencement of the position.
The Advanced Trainee is also responsible for the supervision organisational support of other ophthalmology trainees and Junior Medical Officers. And to provide organisational support (up to 16 hrs per week), in conjunction with the JMO Unit, in all matters relating to JMOs such as representation, education, WH&S, recruitment, term allocations and rosters, working conditions, provision of junior trainees to hospitals within the Training Program and well-being of junior trainees.
