About the Role
Catterson Contracts Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Vehicle Painter to join our growing workshop team in Bullsbrook, Western Australia.
This is a full-time, ongoing position primarily working on the preparation, refinishing and restoration of heavy machinery, earthmoving equipment, trucks, trailers, plant and associated components.
The successful applicant will be responsible for completing surface preparation and spray-painting work to a high commercial standard while working safely and efficiently within our workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect machinery, vehicles and components to identify paint defects, corrosion, damage and preparation requirements.
- Prepare surfaces for refinishing using sanding, grinding and other appropriate preparation methods.
- Remove old paint, rust, coatings and contaminants as required.
- Apply body fillers and putties and sand surfaces to achieve the required finish.
- Apply primers and prepare surfaces for final coating.
- Mask and protect glass, tyres, hydraulics, identification plates and other components not being painted.
- Mix, match and prepare paints in accordance with required colours and coating specifications.
- Apply primers, base coats and top coats using professional spray-painting equipment.
- Complete touch-ups, blending and corrective refinishing as required.
- Inspect completed paintwork for finish quality, colour accuracy and defects.
- Rectify imperfections and complete final quality checks.
- Operate and maintain spray guns, compressors, sanding equipment and paint-booth equipment.
- Follow safe handling procedures for paints, solvents, thinners and other coating products.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area.
- Read and follow job cards, work orders and customer specifications.
- Communicate job progress and material requirements with workshop management.
- Work alongside other workshop personnel to maintain efficient workflow and meet job deadlines.
Skills and Experience
Applicants should have:
- Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated experience as a Vehicle Painter or in automotive/vehicle refinishing.
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation, primers, paint systems and spray-painting techniques.
- Experience using professional spray guns and associated workshop equipment.
- Ability to prepare and refinish surfaces to a high commercial standard.
- Good colour-matching and paint-mixing knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and safe chemical handling.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team.
Highly Regarded
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Heavy machinery and earthmoving equipment painting.
- Trucks, trailers and commercial vehicle refinishing.
- Industrial or plant-equipment coating.
- Machinery refurbishment.
- Abrasive blasting and associated surface preparation.

Salary: $82,992 per annum + superannuation, based on $42.00 per hour and a 38-hour working week.
