Candidate Professional Focus: Oncology & Cancer Supportive Care
The ideal candidate will focus specifically on integrative cancer care, utilizing evidence-informed TCM modalities to support patients through all stages of their cancer journey (pre-treatment, active medical therapies, and survivorship/rehabilitation).
Key Clinical Focus Areas:
- Symptom & Side-Effect Management: Implementing acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, and herbal strategies to alleviate chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), treatment-related fatigue, nausea/vomiting, radiation-induced dermatitis, dry mouth (xerostomia), hot flashes, and chronic cancer pain.
- Immune & Vitality Support: Supporting physical resilience, gut health, sleep, and emotional wellbeing during active chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapies, or immunotherapy cycles.
- Herb-Drug Safety & Interaction Protocols: Reviewing oral Chinese herbal medicine formulas against Western oncological treatments to ensure safety, non-interference, and compliance with hospital treatment regimens.
- Post-Surgical & Recovery Care: Assisting post-surgical rehabilitation, tissue healing, scar management, and secondary lymphoedema support in coordination with our manual lymph drainage therapist.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Essential:
- AHPRA / CMBA Registration: Dual registration as both an Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioner.
- Demonstrated Oncology Focus: A minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience with a dedicated focus or high caseload in supportive cancer care.
- Oncology Inter-Professional Communication: Proven experience in communicating directly with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, and palliative care teams.
- Insurances & First Aid: Valid Professional Indemnity Insurance and current First Aid certification.
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualifications (Master’s or PhD) or formal hospital internship training in TCM Oncology (e.g., teaching hospital clinical immersion).
- Active membership in relevant professional networks (AACMA, FCMA, Society for Integrative Oncology, or similar).
