About the opportunities
Muswellbrook Shire Council is offering six School Based Traineeship opportunities across five different roles, commencing in November 2026.
A School Based Traineeship provides the opportunity to combine paid employment, formal training and school studies while working towards a nationally recognised qualification and completing the Higher School Certificate (HSC).

Applicants may apply for one, multiple or all five traineeship roles. As part of the online application, applicants will be asked to select the role/s they would like to be considered for.
About you
To be considered for a School Based Traineeship, applicants will need to:
- be currently enrolled in Year 10 and intend to continue school to complete Years 11 and 12 and the HSC;
- be able to commit to the requirements of a School Based Traineeship, including paid employment, formal training and school studies;
- be willing and able to undertake the relevant nationally recognised qualification as part of their HSC;
- have basic literacy, numeracy and communication skills;
- be willing to learn, follow instructions and work under supervision;
- be able to contribute positively within a team environment; and
- demonstrate an ability to engage in Council's SPIRIT Values – Safety, Pride, Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Teamwork.
We offer
- A two-year School Based Traineeship commencing in November 2026.
- Paid employment while completing Years 11 and 12 and the HSC.
- The opportunity to complete a nationally recognised qualification relevant to the selected traineeship.
- Practical workplace experience and structured on-the-job training with Muswellbrook Shire Council.
- Salary in accordance with the applicable Trainee rate under the Local Government (State) Award, based on age and applicable traineeship conditions, plus superannuation.
