About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Administration and Revenue Services, the Patient Services Officer (Ward Clerk) plays a vital role in supporting the effective operation of the Inpatient Units at Manning Base Hospital. This position provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care by delivering exceptional customer service and comprehensive administrative support within a dynamic clinical environment.
As a valued member of the Administration Team, you will work closely with nursing, medical and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the smooth coordination of inpatient administrative services. Acting as the first point of contact for patients, families, visitors and internal stakeholders, you will provide a professional, welcoming and responsive service while maintaining accurate patient information and supporting the efficient flow of patients throughout their hospital journey.
This diverse role requires excellent organisational and communication skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service. You will work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, confidentiality and attention to detail are essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing high-quality administrative and customer service support to patients, carers, visitors, clinicians and other stakeholders.
- Managing patient admissions, transfers and discharges, ensuring documentation is completed accurately and in accordance with NSW Health policies and procedures.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring the integrity of patient information within electronic and paper-based systems.
- Identifying and recording appropriate patient funding and billing information to support hospital activity, revenue processes and reporting requirements.
- Coordinating administrative workflows to support the efficient operation of the inpatient unit and facilitate timely patient care.
- Responding to telephone and face-to-face enquiries in a professional, compassionate and timely manner.
- Maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion when handling sensitive patient and organisational information.
- Supporting clinicians and the multidisciplinary team by providing efficient administrative coordination and communication.
- Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.
