The Burnside Library is part of South Australia’s extensive network of public libraries. The second busiest library in the State, Burnside prides itself on a dynamic collection of items available for loan along with programs including digital literacy, Baby Chat and Story Time, and author talks throughout the year. With over 220,000 visitors each year, the Burnside Library is situated at the heart of one of Adelaide’s most attractive and historic residential areas. The City of Burnside covers 28 suburbs and has a residential population of over 45,000. As our Senior Technical Services Officer, you will contribute to the development, management and maintenance of dynamic library collections, oversee key technical services functions, and support the delivery of outstanding library services to our community. Working closely with the Coordinator Library Collections, you'll help ensure our collections remain relevant, accessible and responsive to community needs while supporting staff, volunteers and customers across our library service.
About the role
You will:
- Support the acquisition, cataloguing, processing and maintenance of library collections.
- Contribute to collection development, evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate the Community Languages collection.
- Provide training and support to staff and volunteers.
- Assist customers to access and use library resources, technologies and digital services.
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience aligned with Council's values.
- Contribute to the day-to-day operation of the library, including rostered weekend and evening shifts.
About you
You will bring:
- Strong knowledge of library technical services, collection management and cataloguing practices.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Experience working in a public library environment using the One Card system.
- The ability to supervise, mentor and support staff and volunteers.
- A collaborative, adaptable and community-focused approach.
The position is on a part-time FTE 0.8, classified at Level 3 plus 12% superannuation under the City of Burnside Administration Employees Enterprise Agreement 2023.
