About the business/role/team
The Reserve Bank of Australia issues Australia’s banknotes and ensure they remain secure and fit for purpose. This role is seeking a research engineer to work in the Research and Development (R&D) team which is part of the Note Issue department located Craigieburn, Victoria. The research engineer will be responsible for the design, development and maintenance of banknote authentication detectors and quality assurance devices reporting to the manager of the R&D projects team.

Design, fabrication and assembly of optoelectronic components and systems

Design and fabrication of hardware components for instruments and devices

Printed circuit board design and assembly

Connecting electronic subsystems so they communicate and function together

Electronics debugging and troubleshooting
About you
-
Experience in the design, fabrication and assembly of optoelectronic components and systems - Minimum 5+ years experience

Bachelor degree in electronic/mechatronics engineering or equivalent

Enhanced skills in designing and fabrication of electronic circuits

Skills in electronics design packages e.g Altium
-
Skills in electronics assembly tools (e.g. oscilloscopes, signal generator, power supplies, soldering, reflow oven)

Proficient in use of computer aided design programs e.g. Solidworks

Demonstrated experience in additive and substrative manufacturing techniques

Competent machining skills (e.g. CNC, milling, lathe)

Highly competent communication skills - both writing and verbal
-
Programming code skills (e.g. C, C++, Visual Studio, Arduino) would be advantageous
