About the role
The Senior Platform Manager is responsible for leading our Business-as-Usual (BAU) engineering team, championing operational excellence, and fostering a high-performance culture. The team is responsible for delivering minor changes, bug fixes, and integration enhancements, while managing technical customer escalations and partnering with practice management solution (PMS) providers.
While this is primarily a people-leadership and process-driven role, the successful candidate will possess strong technical literacy to effectively guide architecture, review technical designs, and maintain high engineering standards. Working closely alongside the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, this role owns the operational governance, incident frameworks, observability practices, and change management processes required to keep the platform stable, secure, and compliant.
Leading a team of approximately four to five engineers, the Senior Platform Manager is accountable for recruitment, performance management, talent development, and driving the maturity of the team's operational practices.
Due to the nature of this position within the healthcare sector, applicants must be Australian or New Zealand Citizens to be eligible for consideration.
What you'll do
People Leadership & Culture
Lead, coach, and develop a team of 4-5 engineers, fostering a high-trust, collaborative, and accountable engineering culture.
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and continuous professional growth for all team members.
Manage team workload and capacity, effectively balancing reactive operational support with planned platform improvements.
Process & Operational Governance
Own the team's incident response framework; coordinate diagnosis, resolution, and blameless post-mortems for bugs and minor incidents while ensuring clear stakeholder communication.
Establish and enforce robust production change control processes, ensuring all code releases, data migrations, and environment changes are low-risk and compliant.
Drive the standardisation of runbooks and automation to reduce key-person risk, and coordinate Disaster Recovery (DRP) and Business Continuity (BCP) testing in partnership with SRE.
Act as the primary gatekeeper for operational readiness, ensuring new functionality transitioning from project teams is fully documented, supportable, and seamlessly operationalised.
Observability & Platform Health
Establish, mature, and maintain telemetry, dashboarding, and observability tools to ensure complete visibility into application performance and database health.
Design and optimize alerting structures to ensure critical and escalating errors are automatically detected, categorized by severity, and routed to the team for rapid triage before they impact customers.
Define and track key operational metrics (e.g., Mean Time to Detect/Resolve, error budgets) to drive continuous improvement in system reliability.
Technical Oversight & Strategy
Act as a technical sounding board and mentor, ensuring the team adheres to best practices in logging, alerting, testing, and system repairability.
Oversee the technical design of product defect fixes and enhancements, ensuring code reviews are thorough and production standards remain high.
Maintain oversight of application health, database management strategies, and system dependency patching schedules to mitigate security vulnerabilities.
Stakeholder & Partner Management
Partner Integrations: Work alongside the Partnerships team and Practice Management Solution (PMS) partners to scope, design, and certify high-quality, supportable integrations.
Compliance & Risk: Partner with Risk and Compliance teams to articulate the team’s control positions, complete security questionnaires, and ensure strict adherence to data privacy laws and Tyro policies.
What you'll bring
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology (IT), or related field.
Proven experience successfully leading and managing an engineering or technical operations team, including talent development and performance management.
Strong background in structured Incident Management and Change Management in a production environment.
Practical experience implementing or managing modern monitoring and observability tooling (e.g. Datadog, New Relic, Splunk, CloudWatch) to handle log aggregation, error escalation, and alert routing.
Solid software engineering background with the capacity to review code, understand system architecture, and guide development in some or most of: Node.js, React/React Native, TypeScript, CI/CD, and databases (MongoDB/Postgres).
Working understanding of database management, access control, logging and auditing, and resource and performance monitoring.
Strong operational instincts with the ability to lead the team through complex root-cause analysis calmly and methodically under pressure.
Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate across Customer Support, SRE, Product, and Risk/Compliance teams.
Nice to have
Experience leading a BAU, application support or platform operations function.
Experience with MongoDB (Atlas), Postgres, AWS or UNIX scripting.
Experience managing partner or third-party integrations
Experience improving operational maturity - runbooks, transition-to-operations, DR/BCP testing, security patching - and familiarity with risk and compliance frameworks in a regulated environment.
Experience within the Health or Banking/Finance industries, with knowledge of payment and claiming services and Point of Sale / Practice Management systems.
