Primary objective
Provide strategic financial management, budgeting and business partnering support to allocated business units, delivering high-
quality analysis, reporting and advice to support informed decision-making, financial sustainability and organisational objectives.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide expert financial and budget management advice to executives and managers, including forecasting, budget strategies
and financial performance improvement.
2. Prepare and analyse financial, workforce and performance reports, identifying trends, risks and recommendations to support
decision-making.
3. Partner with business units to support planning, resource allocation and delivery of strategic and operational objectives.
4. Monitor financial performance, identify cost pressures and opportunities, and contribute to continuous improvement of
financial systems, processes and reporting.
5. Ensure compliance with financial, governance and legislative requirements, including supporting audits and implementing
corrective actions where required.
6. Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate service delivery, resolve issues
and achieve business outcomes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting within a complex
organisation.
2. High-level knowledge of accrual accounting principles and financial management practices, preferably in a public sector
environment.
3. Proven ability to analyse complex financial information and provide strategic advice and recommendations to senior
stakeholders.
4. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information clearly and
influence decision-making.
5. Demonstrated ability to build collaborative stakeholder relationships and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
6. Advanced skills in financial systems, reporting tools and spreadsheet applications, with the ability to manage competing
priorities and work autonomously.
7. Knowledge of accrual accounting, performance reporting and a thorough understanding of strategic and business planning
processes including financial forecasting.
8. Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team within a high-volume work environment managing confidential and sensitive
information, manage time effectively, prioritise workloads and approach issues in an innovative way.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a finance of business management related discipline.
2. Knowledge and understanding of custodial operations in the Northern Territory and understanding of the requirements and
limitations of working within a complex secure environment.
