Activate Health runs an amazing ACTIV Play Holiday program every school holidays targeting the special needs of children, teens, and adults with disabilities such as but not limited to autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, developmental delays, anxiety, cerebral palsy, chromosomal abnormalities, and intellectual disabilities. Our program, which is designed and facilitated by Accredited Exercise Physiologists’ aims to provide goal-specific exercise interventions for the following groups:
Group 1: 4 – 8 years old
Group 2: 8 – 12 years old
This group focuses on developing and mastering fundamental movement skills required for complex movement tasks. This is implemented in a game-based approach which also encourages peer socialization.
This group focuses on mastering the fundamental movement skills and applying them to more complex activities. This group typically engages in “sport-based” gameplay to improve confidence with sports of interest.
This session is run in the local gym and is designed to meet the physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of teens, along with creating the skills for independent exercise and access to community.
An exercise group for adults with special needs. This group aims to enhance exercise engagement and confidence in a social setting.
Our Programs are all delivered by our Experienced Accredited Exercise Physiologists’ so you will be fully supported and provided with an invaluable learning experience, whilst being a valuable team member and in a paid position.
- A basic knowledge of the conditions mentioned above, symptomology that may present, and how to communicate effectively with these populations.
- A positive attitude, enthusiasm to learn and be involved, good communication skills, and a good affinity with children and teens would be helpful.
- A Working with Children check and your own transport is essential, along with time management, and professionalism.
This role will be on a casual basis, though structured rosters will be provided with good notice. Rate to be determined with level and experience (approx. $28- $35 per hour).
