This is a significant leadership opportunity reporting to the General Manager Risk, Strategy & Performance. As Executive Manager, Financial Crime Risk and Controls, you will lead a large team with responsibility for proactively managing financial crime risk to ensure Bankwest detects, disrupts and deters Financial Crimes activity, and ensures ongoing compliance with our Financial Crimes obligations. Working within a federated Financial Crime operating model, you will provide strong Line 1 risk ownership, overseeing and influencing activities delivered across Bankwest and the broader CBA Group. You’ll lead a broad Financial Crime Risk and Operations function including capability in risk, controls, investigations, operations, delivery of change and data and system management.
This role requires a highly proactive leader who is energised by building capability, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a strong, self-reliant risk culture across the mainly Perth based organisation.

In this role you will lead and evolve a high-performing team of Financial Crime professionals while partnering closely with senior executives and business leaders across Bankwest and the broader CBA Group.
Your day could look like (but not limited to):

Proactively detect and anticipate responses to changes in the internal and external risk landscape that may impact the Bankwest risk profile.

Oversee implementation of Group Financial Crime Policy and governance initiatives.

Consult on opportunities to enhance the design and operating effectiveness of Financial Crimes related controls to ensure Bankwest take requisite steps to Detect, Disrupt and Deter Financial Crimes activity.

Lead the provision of insightful business intelligence to accountable owners, governing forums and committees, to create transparency of risk outcomes.

Partner with business stakeholders to enhance and integrate existing functions into Group Strategic capabilities, driving automation, efficiency and risk buy-down.

Lead the design, implementation and execution of data-driven Financial Crime detection capabilities across the business, taking advantage of emerging technology and capabilities.

Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders to manage their risk, compliance obligations and business operations within risk appetite, including by representing Bankwest in senior Group Financial Crime forums and building trusted relationships across the Group

Lead and develop the capability of the team through coaching and development opportunities.

Strong technical skills and knowledge in Operational Risk and Compliance with a focus on Financial Crimes.

Ability to engage with and influence a large and varied stakeholder group coupled with the proven ability to find solutions that balance the needs of various stakeholder groups.

Proven experience leading large, high-performing and multi-layered teams through change, growth and capability uplift.

Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions, prioritise effectively and lead confidently in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and ambiguity.

Strong ability to influence and partner with senior executives and stakeholders across complex organisations, including the ability to challenge constructively.
