About the role
Popo Lee is looking for experienced and motivated Chefs and Cooks to join our busy Korean restaurant in Northbridge, Perth.
We are looking for team members with strong commercial cooking skills, particularly experience with wok cooking and Korean or Asian cuisine. Depending on your qualifications, experience and level of responsibility, you may work as a Chef or Cook within our kitchen team.
The role involves preparing and cooking Korean dishes to a consistently high standard while working efficiently in a busy, high-volume restaurant environment.
Key responsibilities
Prepare and cook Korean and Asian dishes according to established recipes and quality standards
Operate and manage the wok station during busy service
Complete mise en place and daily food preparation for service
Maintain consistency in flavour, portion size and presentation
Ensure food is prepared and cooked efficiently during high-volume service
Monitor food quality throughout preparation and service
Maintain a clean, organised and efficient workstation
Follow established recipes, systems and kitchen procedures
Assist with preparation across different kitchen sections when required
Monitor ingredient usage and minimise food waste
Follow correct food storage, labelling and stock rotation procedures
Maintain excellent food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards
Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient service
Assist with maintaining kitchen equipment and work areas
Additional responsibilities — Chef level
For applicants appointed at Chef level, the role will also include:
Take responsibility for the wok section and coordinate its operation during service
Lead and support kitchen team members during busy service periods
Allocate preparation and cooking tasks to junior kitchen staff where required
Train and guide kitchen staff in recipes, cooking techniques and kitchen procedures
Monitor kitchen workflow and ensure preparation is completed for service
Assist with menu planning, recipe development and maintaining standardised recipes
Monitor stock levels and identify ordering requirements
Assist with ordering food, ingredients and kitchen supplies
Receive and check deliveries for quality, quantity and freshness
Assist with stock control, stock rotation and inventory management
Monitor food costs and minimise unnecessary waste
Ensure kitchen standards and recipes are consistently followed
Assist management with maintaining kitchen quality, efficiency and food safety standards
Take responsibility for maintaining consistent food quality during service
About you
We are looking for people who:
Have previous commercial cooking experience
Have experience working in a busy restaurant or high-volume kitchen
Have strong wok cooking skills
Have experience with Korean or Asian cuisine
Can confidently handle a busy service
Can work quickly while maintaining consistency and quality
Have good knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
Can follow recipes and established kitchen systems accurately
Are reliable, punctual and able to work well as part of a team
Can work independently and take responsibility for their assigned section
Take pride in their work and maintain high standards
Have a positive attitude and strong work ethic
For Chef-level applicants
Chef applicants should additionally have:
Demonstrated experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen
Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen operations
Experience leading or supervising kitchen team members
Experience with stock control and food ordering
Ability to coordinate kitchen preparation and workflow
Ability to train and support junior kitchen staff
Strong understanding of food quality, consistency and portion control
Korean or Asian cuisine experience is highly regarded.
