Based in Cairns, you'll partner with leaders and teams across our organisation to navigate complex people matters, strengthen people management practices and find practical solutions that support both our workforce and the communities we serve. And while Cairns will be your home base, from time to time your work may take you beyond the office and into the incredible communities of the Torres Strait and Cape York.
What you'll be doing
No two days will look quite the same.
You'll provide high-level advice, guidance and support across a broad range of Human Resources, Workplace and Employment Relations matters, with a strong focus on building effective employment practices and people management strategies. You may find yourself:
partnering with leaders to work through complex or sensitive employee matters
providing advice relating to performance, discipline, suspension, dismissal, workplace harassment and medical assessment
interpreting legislation, directives, policies, awards and agreements and translating them into clear, practical advice
undertaking research and workplace investigations
preparing confidential reports, correspondence and recommendations
supporting leaders to confidently manage their staff
working collaboratively across HR and the broader organisation to find practical, workable solutions

Who we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced HR professional who can confidently navigate complex employment matters while never losing sight of the people involved. You'll bring:
a sound understanding of employment frameworks relevant to Queensland Health and/or the Queensland public sector
the ability to interpret and apply legislation, directives, policies and industrial instruments
experience providing advice on complex and sensitive employment matters
strong HR business acumen and conceptual thinking skills
highly developed communication, consultation and negotiation skills
the ability to build trusted relationships with leaders, stakeholders and colleagues
a practical approach to problem-solving - you don't just identify the issue, you help find the way forward
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who understands that great HR is about more than policies and processes. It's about relationships, trust, sound judgement and supporting leaders to make good people decisions.
Torres and Cape will give you a career with purpose, plus excellent benefits and allowances;
