Planning and Development
The Planning and Development Unit supports the responsible and sustainable use of land across East Gippsland. The team provides planning, building, subdivision, environmental health and community laws services, helping the community, developers and internal teams understand and navigate Council processes.
The Opportunity
As the Planning Liaison Officer, you will be the day-to-day contact for planning-related customer enquiries, helping customers access clear and timely information. You will support the Statutory Planning team by responding to and triaging enquiries, preparing planning correspondence, and assisting with VicSmart Planning Permit Applications and other tasks as required.
You will also manage Council’s external-facing AI planning program, MyLot Enquire, including monitoring usage, errors and saving results in Council’s data management system.
This is a full time, ongoing position based in Bairnsdale and operates under Council’s hybrid working model. An initial period of full-time office-based work will be required to support onboarding and training, with hybrid working arrangements available once the successful candidate has developed sufficient knowledge and capability in the role. While hybrid work flexibility is available, this role cannot be completed living outside of the region - an ongoing expectation of working from the office at least three days per week applies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Respond to and triage planning-related customer enquiries.
- Prepare planning correspondence, including planning certificates and pre-application advice.
- Support the Statutory Planning team with VicSmart applications and other overflow tasks.
- Assist with reviewing incoming planning permit applications and identifying key issues.
- Manage MyLot Enquire, including monitoring usage, errors and records.
What we're looking for:
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience in planning or a similar field.
- Good understanding of planning permit applications and related processes.
- Ability to read and interpret legislation, guidelines and planning information.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly with a range of people.
- Well organised, self-directed and able to manage priorities in a team environment.
