About the Role
The Estimator plays an integral role in the insurance claims process, setting each claim up for success from the outset and is often the first point of contact for the customer following lodgement of their claim. The Estimator is responsible for establishing a clear understanding of the required works and providing accurate, timely and detailed scopes for budget estimates and tenders.
As part of the Bay Building team, you will be responsible for preparing accurate quotations and cost estimates across a diverse portfolio of insurance claims, ranging from smaller residential losses through to large and complex residential and commercial claims.
You will prepare and submit causation reports, quotations, budget estimates and detailed building repair scopes, ensuring proposed works are clearly defined, accurately costed and aligned with the requirements of the claim.
Working closely with the Department Manager, you will collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including, Claims and Project Coordinators, Supervisors, Trades, Loss Adjusters, Brokers and Customers. Your ability to build strong relationships, communicate effectively and provide practical estimating solutions will be key to delivering successful claim outcomes.

Key activities (include but are not limited to the following):
- Provide clear and comprehensive assessment and causation reports to support claim decisions and ensure stakeholders have the information required to progress claims.
- Develop and deliver clear, detailed and accurate scopes of works across a diverse range of residential and commercial insurance claims.
- Prepare detailed budget breakdowns, quotations and cost estimates, ensuring accuracy, transparency and alignment with the required repair methodology.
- Liaise with contractors, trades and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations, validate pricing to support with delivering practical and appropriate repair methodologies.
- Develop high-level construction programs and schedules to support estimating submissions as required and provide visibility of anticipated project timeframes.
- Apply a strong understanding of construction processes, building practices and repair methodologies, particularly in relation to complex and large-loss claims.
- Identify and incorporate critical inspection points, permit and NCC requirements, and WHS considerations into scopes, estimates and proposed repair solutions.
- Ensure all estimates, scopes and supporting documentation are completed to a high standard and within required timeframes.
- Maintain a customer-focused approach, recognising the Estimator's role as an important first point of contact following claim lodgement.
- Occasional regional travel required
Key Skills and Qualifications;
- Proven skills in construction estimating for building repairs across both domestic and commercial properties
- Proven expertise in estimating complex commercial construction projects
- Willingness to estimate large and small projects in our dedicated Loss Adjusting Projects team, working alongside and supporting our Major Projects team on large, complex claims
- Ability to deal with multiple projects simultaneously with conflicting priorities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Thorough understanding of the construction process from concept to handover and WHS requirements
- Ability to interpret plans and engineers’ drawings
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of NCC 2025 (National Construction Code) and relevant construction Australian Standards
- Cert IV in Building Project Support / Building and Construction preferred
